As COVID-19 restrictions began to ease and the transition towards in-person events gradually resumed, we found ourselves navigating a new landscape of hybrid events, where attendance was not entirely physical. Leveraging my understanding of media infrastructures and the nuances of in-person versus virtual experiences, I orchestrated several events throughout 2021-2022. A notable example was the Post Commodities Symposium led by Xavi Augirre, where I served as the Lead Event Producer. This symposium, held at the Liberty Annex of Ann Arbor, was designed as a hybrid model featuring in-person hosts and speakers, alongside virtual speakers and audiences.

The challenge was to create an environment where in-person speakers could engage with online presentations without the mediation of a laptop screen, while also facilitating interactive dialogue between online speakers and the physical audience. Additionally, it was crucial that the virtual audience experienced more than just a standard 'zoom screen,' by incorporating engaging and immersive graphics. Achieving this seamless integration required a sophisticated use of broadcasting technology, manipulating various inputs and outputs, and close collaboration with Xavi's team. The successful execution of this two-day symposium set a precedent for hosting similar hybrid experiences, including smaller-scale lectures and collaborative events like the Wallenberg Symposium, thereby redefining the format of academic and professional gatherings in a post-pandemic world.
